Mahatma Gandhi was born in India on oktober 2, 1869. He died in january 30, 1948. He was an British-educated lawyer. In May 1883, at the age of 13, Gandhi was married through his parents arrangements to Kasturba Makhanji. They had four sons. In 1891, after having been admitted to the British bar, he returned to India and attempted to establish a law practice in Bombay, without much success. Two year’s later an Indian firm retained him as legal adviser in Durban. Gandhi stayed in South Africa for twenty year’s. The Indianes who lived in South Africa were without political rights. Gandhi encouraged Indians to boycott British goods and buy Indian goods instead. This helped to revitalise local economies in India. Gandhi was impriosened in 1922, 1930, 1933 and in 1942. While in prison, he went on hungerstrike. Gandhi bacame the international symbol of a free India.
